Anesthesiology is a branch of medicine dedicated to providing pain relief for various surgical and medical procedures. The Department of Anesthesiology not only caters to patients posted for elective and emergency surgeries in the operating room, but also provides other services like

Services provided
At present, the Anaesthesia Department provides protocol based anaesthesia and ICU services to departments of General Surgery, Obstetric and Gynaecology, IVF, ENT, Orthopaedics, Urology, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic surgery and burns, Guru Nanak Eye Centre theatres, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (Oral and Maxillofacial surgery) and Sushruta Trauma centre. It also provides peripheral anesthesia services to interventional radiology, MRI, CT scan, acute and chronic pain services, resuscitation and obstetric analgesia services.
In addition, the department provides:

Preanaesthesia (PAC) Clinic To screen the patients referred by the various surgical units i.e. General Surgery, Orthopedic, ENT, Burns & Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Eye Surgery for fitness to undergo various surgical procedures. On an average 100-140 patients attend this clinic everyday.

3. Resuscitation in the casualty & emergency wings.

The Department has got the latest “Human Simulator” and skill development lab for teaching and hands on training of anesthesia, vascular access, central neuraxial blockade, peripheral nerve blockade and emergency scenarios including CPR. The simulator is also used for teaching and assessing Non-Technical Skills (NTS).
Over the years, along with the development of Medical Sciences, the Department has set up its own high standards in patient care, education and research. All operation theatres are equipped with state of the art Anaesthesia machines, facilities for invasive blood pressure and CVP monitoring, Entropy and BIS monitoring and rapid fluid infuser for major surgeries and ultrasonography for regional anesthesia blocks and vascular access.
IPD:
The department has 15 bedded ICU in the New Casualty/Emergency block of Lok Nayak Hospital, providing services to critically ill patients with medical, surgical and traumatic disease. There are state of the art, computerized ICU ventilators for each bed. There is facility to monitor the vital signs of the patients i.e. ECG, BP, respiratory parameters & various other invasive & non-invasive parameters along with central monitoring system. The anaesthesia lab attached to the ICU conducts Arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, D dimer, Cardiac enzymes analysis for patients in the ICU, OTs and casualty round the clock. The ICU is manned by trained Anesthesiologists, Nursing staff and Technical staff round the clock.
